Transponders

Most members own two transponders as part of their membership, non members racing will have a transponder waiting for them at signing on. Track n Trail will loan you a transponder for the duration of the event all you will need is to leave a £ 10 deposit at signing on. Note if you do not return after the race the deposit will be lost as we will have to make a new transponder for that number for the next event.

Timing System

Track n Trail’s New State of the art Matrix Live Timing System is set to revolutionise cross country and enduro results. This timing system does not just give you your laps and time; it even gives you the time difference between you and your target, the riders ahead of you! With every lap you know your placing in class. It is all there on a large Digital LCD screen. And now there’s no need to stop! These passive transponders can pick up your detection at speeds over 60mph. The only problems are your trusty pit crew are out of a job and when you are in last place it’s probably best to look away!

Race Timing Hardware

The hard where equipment used for picking up detections has been developed by a French company DAG , there are four ways to collect detection times the aerial is the normal and quickest way is as they pass under the aerial ,the second method is manually typing into the laptop a bike number, this is useful when a competitor loses their transponder, the third option is to swipe the rider with a badger, information is stored in the badger and also sent back to the black box and on to the laptop. We always use the badger as well for the final detection so that we collect two independent finish times. The final way to collect detections is to use the latest Blue Badgers. These can be used independently with or without being connected to the black box or laptop on any part of the track or used to transfer detections by blue tooth to a laptop and on to the internet if needed. If the black box or badgeurs is shut down by accident they never lose the recorded detections. This is what makes this system perfect for outside events.

Race Timing Software

This is one of the areas where we have made a massive leap forward, all the other organizers buy their software off the shelf, but the problem is that these only give very limited info, in other words it only does what a programmer who doesn’t understand the sport thinks we need, our product gives you all the bells and whistles you could ever wish for. We have employed some of the best programming engineers available over the years to pioneer and improve the way we show the results, this has come at great expense not only in terms of money but months of research and testing but we at Track n Trail believe in forward thinking and in proving every aspect of the sport so that riders can enjoy the very best. As far as the purpose of the software, this is where all those detections are sorted out and made in to very some useful information; some races can have 4000 detections over one race! We have had a number of UKs top programming engineers immersed in producing the live timing, working out lap times, place in class, total laps, time difference between the rider ahead of you in your class, if riders are course cutting, all this is done in the mille seconds before you hear the beep, then all of your stats are on the live matrix timing display. At the push of a button the provisional results scroll in class order. After all this info is checked, extremely detailed results are published on are new web site and riders can analyse and compare results to help improve their riding.

Prototype Aerial summer 2011

The Track n Trail timing team were using the latest prototype areal for our live timing system at Norden; we discovered that it was 4 times more sensitive and more reliable than the previous one. The old aerial only picked up detections from about 40cm away and the new one works from up to 2 meters away and covers the entire arched area from the top to ground level. The time keepers found it to be excellent, consequently the live timing ran perfectly. Please note, while we were developing and testing we noticed that the transponders work a lot better when the wire is in a complete circular loop and is fixed vertically rather than flat on the rider. When the transponder was correctly positioned, as just described, it never failed to be detected by the aerial.
